Environmental Design + Broadcast Production

Art gallery grand opening event in Nevada City, CA featuring large scale projection-mapped displays, custom video packages, and a multi-camera live broadcast experience.

The Design Brief

To be in the presence of this collection of psychedelic ephemera was nothing short of surreal. The Towr team was tasked with two major objectives in the aid of the gallery’s grand opening:

The first objective was to deploy two 20k projectors and map the outside of The Chambers Project gallery.

The second objective was to capture the indoor gallery experience for a five-camera live broadcast.

Challenges + Obstacles

From concept to deployment.

Each objective was faced with its own unique rigging and installation challenges.

For the projection-mapped building we needed to install projectors high and dry, as well as far enough away to cast light on the approx. 100’ x 30’ external surface.

Inside, each of our five camera positions required extensive power and data cable rigging; all of which had to be run to a central mixing station outside the gallery space.

Solutions + Deliverables

We secured two 20k lumen projectors from a local vendor and installed them on a scissor lift 65' away from the projection surface. Our video command center was set up in a decked out mini bus parked next to the lift, giving us immediate access to the projectors and a total view of the surface.

Using Resolume and a few bits of AI magic we live remixed high resolution images of the art featured in the gallery on the massive external wall. The two 20k projectors were the perfect solution as even with the external light pollution, the images were bright and crisp in color.

When installing hundreds of feet of power and data cables one normally doesn’t have to consider avoiding $100k+ paintings. However in this case, that was the name of the game. The team installed numerous cable runs in the ceiling under the watchful eyes of many legendary painters involved in the show.
